Kenya is my favorite!

Kenya is a great safari destination! It is my personal favorite of the six countries that I have visited for safari. There seems to be no limit to the animal sightings you will have in Kenya. From the Masai Mara in the West to Tsavo and Amboseli in the Southeast to Lake Nakuru and Samburu in the North and many more famous safari locations you will find large amounts of wildlife and scenery. More animals, less time traveling between game areas, more efficient use of your time! There are many very large private reserves each offering some great viewing.

For Kenya I can personally recommend Ontdek:  http://www.ontdekkenya.com

Check out their website for details. Briefly, though they are large enough to have a great variety of animal viewing locations and small enough to provide you with close personal attention. After seeing the possibilities on their website you can contact them by email for more discusion and details. You can actually create your own itinerary. You can choose a tented safari or lodge safari. You can choose a private safari or a group safari. They even offer some hiking safari options. I have traveled with them and they are reliable and most trustworthy.

They offer all types of game viewing possibilities. But personally I preferred a more photography-oriented safari. Being a photographer I appreciated their knowledge of where and when to go to find the animals. The owner himself is an avid photographer and that photography emphasis was evident throughout our adventure. Our driver was most understanding of the need to position the jeep in the proper perspective for the sunlight to aid in getting a better picture. This is a huge difference from most other safari companies.

Tanzania has many great destinations also.

Lake Manyara Area has beautiful scenery with the RIft Valley and Lake Manyara. Many animals cross through during the Great Migration. The Serengeti is the largest area and has great viewing with many species. This is one of the most famous areas of all of Africa.  Tarangire and Ngorongoro Crater are also famous for animal viewing. Tanzania is very safari-friendly and like Kenya, the animals are more accustomed to jeep traffic and not disturbed by a passing jeep. This translates into animals not hiding if they hear an oncoming vehicle.

Botswana

Chobe River is beautiful and has a large variety of animals for viewing. Also boat safari trips on the river are fascinating. The Okavango Delta and Moremi Game Reserve are favorite destinations.

Zimbabwe

Hwange National Park is a huge destination with lots of good animal viewing. Victoria Falls is also a must-see destination and can be viewed by helicoptor and by hiking. The Zambezi River is also fascinating and offers very scenic boat trips.

Namibia

Estosha National Park in the North, Skeleton Coast to the West, and the Caprivi wet lands to the East are three quite different areas that are recommended.

South Africa

Kruger Park and the Cape area are safari favorites.
